Olympianista #11: OLYMPIA is dead, long live OLYMPIA

52 years ago, Wilhelmshaven in northern Germany set the pace for the world for a while. “4000 Olympia machines for the Olympics” was the headline of the local daily newspaper in July 1972, so that “several thousand journalists from all over the world will soon be able to take up their responsible work”. In order to “equip the various workplaces with the most modern and reliable typewriters”, the largest German manufacturer at the time, Olympia Werke AG, based in Roffhausen in Friesland, made the machines available on loan to the Organizing Committee of the XX Olympic Games in Munich.   The Nordwest-Zeitung wrote in July 1972: “In the Munich Olympic Press City, in the sub-press centers in Kiel and at various venues of the XX Olympic Games, several thousand journalists from all over the world will soon begin their responsible work.
